A large component of Eating Disorder (ED) recovery is working through the ED thoughts and separating the person from the ED. This non-branded 4-page handout is intended to be used with ED clients to help them understand which thoughts are their own and which belong to the ED. It also supports recovery by providing examples on how to respond to ED thoughts and statements. This handout is rooted in CBT and is a must-have for any RD working with ED clients. It is a terrific accompaniment to in-session discussions and provides the client with activities in-between sessions. This handout includes:
- What ED Thoughts Are
- How EDs “Work”
- How to Recognize Disordered Eating Thought Patterns (Cognitive Distortions related to EDs, Food and Exercise)
- Examples of Reframing ED Thought Patterns
- Take-Home Activity for Clients to Challenge and Disobey their ED Thoughts –> with the goal of reducing ED Symptoms and Behaviours
