Page 1 is great. Easy to understand, concrete way to look at a sandwich, good model. Eating every 3-4 hours s not always realistic for teens in school, but nice goal. The suggestions on page 2 includes things I would ever recommend. For example – hot dogs, instant noodles, boxed mac/cheese, alfredo sauce, and what is considered a ‘meat snack’? Leave those off or offer diff idea – veggie hot dog, frozen lentil pasta, etc. Suggest non-dairy milk instead of soy milk specifically so it opens options.

Hi Andrea!
I work with high schoolers in a low-income school district and so I find it appropriate to include inexpensive convenience foods on my handouts with recommendations for how my teen clients can turn a convenience food like instant noodles into a more balanced meal by adding fruit and protein.
I do appreciate that in more affluent work settings with clientele who have more resources, others’ recommendations may look different! Thank you for your feedback, I hope you are able to use my handout in your work 🙂
This is a great easy to read handout. I work with teens all the time in a school setting and this is a handout I can use with my classes and sports teams. An excellent resource for a wellness fair we are having at a high school also. Thank you!
