9 Nutrition Coaching Software Options

These platforms help nutrition coaches, registered dietitians, and personal trainers to manage their client workflow. You can use them to message your clients, schedule appointments, collect paperwork, and bill for services.

Each platforms varies in specific features, how user-friendly they are, if you can change the branding (aka white labeling), and of course, price. Some are HIPAA compliant, and some are not.

Here are some common options that you might consider for your in-person or online nutrition business.

1. Practice Better

Practice Better is a popular client management system for dietitians, nutritionists, health coaches, and other health professionals. There are different plan tiers, but all plans are HIPAA compliant and allow for client onboarding, scheduling, charting, and billing. There is a client-facing app that is available for Apple and Android. 

Additional features depend on your plan tier and can include sessions for your group program, text reminders, personalized branding, and recurring client payments.

Pros:

  • Extremely comprehensive practice management features.
  • HIPAA compliant messaging and telehealth (included in all plans for 1-1 services; included in higher tier plans for group services).
  • Dedicated client app.
  • Integrates with various apps and tools, such as That Clean Life, Garmin Connect, Whole Scripts, etc.

Cons:

  • Initially, it may be challenging to navigate what tier plan you need – the comparison chart can be a bit overwhelming.
  • Learning curve to understand all the features.

Pricing:

Plans range from $25 to $145 per month. They do offer a free “Sprout” plan for students and new grads, which offers the ability to work with 3 clients with a more limited feature suite.

2. Coachific

Coachific is a great option if you provide general (non-MNT) nutrition and fitness services to your clients. You can build and deliver your own exercise videos and workouts, as well as provide nutrition plans and recipes to your clients.

Pros:

  • Provides some done-for-you programs and challenges that can be used with clients.
  • Integrate with wearables and trackers.
  • Gamifies client progress with the ability to earn points, badges and rewards.
  • Easy client sign-ups including recurring payment options.

Cons:

  • Not HIPAA compliant, so best to avoid if you’re a dietitian that’s a covered entity.
  • A shared app is available on the lower tier plans, but your own branded app is only available on the highest payment plan.

Pricing:

There are three different tiers: a $9.99/month plan that charges a per-client fee on top of that (best for those with just a few clients), a $99.99/month plan for up to 100 clients, or a $299.99/month plan for up to 500 clients.

3. Healthie

Healthie is a great option for dietitians and other health care professionals in private practice. It lets you take care of scheduling, messaging, chart notes, telehealth sessions, superbills, and more.

Pros:

  • All-in-one practice management platform, including tools like telehealth, client messaging, and scheduling.
  • HIPAA compliant option.
  • Integrates smoothly with calendar apps.

Cons:

  • There is no customer support phone number; support is handled via email (or scheduled meetings).
  • Group telehealth and webinars are only available starting on the Plus plan ($115/month).

Pricing:

Healthie offers a free starter plan for up to 10 clients (great option if you’re just starting a nutrition private practice). After that, pricing starts at $49 per month and goes up from there, based on the number of providers using the membership and features needed.

4. My PT Hub

If you’re a personal trainer or nutrition coach and want a software that covers both aspects, My PT Hub might be the right fit. You can build and assign workouts, create custom meal plans, stream classes live or on-demand, and manage all your client logistics.

Pros:

  • One of the most comprehensive options that combines both fitness and nutrition features.
  • Simple pricing model with unlimited clients.
  • Includes both individual and group messaging capabilities.
  • Ability to stream live classes (like a workout or cooking class).

Cons:

  • Not HIPAA compliant, so best to avoid if you’re a dietitian that’s a covered entity.
  • Some users report clients may experience glitches occasionally when saving food logs.
  • More limited automation features than some other platforms.

Pricing:

With one of the simplest pricing models, My PT Hub one plan with unlimited clients. It is either billed at either $55/month when paid monthly, or $48/month when paid annually. They often offer discounts on your first two months. They also have the option of an additional $95 one-time fee for a custom branded app.

5. Precision Nutrition ProCoach

This software describes itself as “part client-management software, part habit-based coaching curriculum” for nutrition coaches. You and your clients cultivate lasting changes by breaking down big picture goals into small, doable steps that are all tracked via the software.

Pros:

  • Focused on habits over specific plans, which may be useful for certain practitioners’ methodologies
  • Includes a comprehensive practice library with done-for-you resources focusing on habits like nutrition, movement, stress, and sleep.
  • Includes client tracking and progress monitoring tools, including guided check-in flow prompts.

Cons:

  • Higher cost compared to some other nutrition coaching software options.
  • Less features specific to nutrition/fitness programming than other options; the focus is on habits.
  • Limited flexibility.

Pricing:

Plans start at $99 per month for up to 20 clients.

6. Simple Practice

This is an all-in-one software for a variety of health care professionals, including dietitians, speech therapists, and mental health clinicians. From telehealth to client communication to documentation to billing, this software will tackle most of your private practice needs.

Pros:

  • Large number of features for running a private practice.
  • HIPAA compliant.
  • Relatively intuitive user interface.

Cons:

  • Some core features are not included in the starter plan. For example, HIPAA complaint secure messaging and appointment reminders are not included until you upgrade to the second tier plan ($79/month).
  • Group sessions are not included unless you are on the highest tier plan.
  • Some additional fees outside of monthly base plan.

Pricing:

They offer three plan tiers at $49/month, $79/month, and $99/month. There are also additional fees for processing insurance claims as well as payment processing fees.

7. Jane

Jane is a web-based software that offers booking, charting, telehealth, and invoices, all in one spot. It also has AI-powered charting.

Pros:

  • Provides many key features for health care professionals running a private practice
  • HIPAA compliant
  • Users report the company is very responsive to feedback as far as adding or editing features, as well as good customer service for any issues

Cons:

  • Users report notes may be a bit clunky until you set up a template that works for you.
  • Group telehealth and insurance billing are additional add-on fees on any plan.

Pricing:

Jane offers three pricing tiers: $39/month (for up to 20 appointments per month), $79/month, and $99/month. Group telehealth is an additional $15/month on any of these plans. 

8. Trainerize

This is one of the post popular options for personal trainers and nutrition coaches. You can deliver nutrition and fitness programs through the user-friendly app and engage with clients in real time.

Pros:

  • Includes automated workout program delivery with habit/lifestyle tracking
  • Can deliver meal plans with shopping lists right in the app using the advanced nutrition add-on
  • Ability to create a custom-branded app (additional one-time fee)

Cons:

  • Not HIPAA compliant, so best to avoid if you’re a dietitian that’s a covered entity.
  • Somewhat limited database for specialized exercises (if you’re providing fitness programming).
  • Pricing model can be a bit confusing; several functionalities require add-on pricing (i.e. “advanced nutrition coaching”, stripe integration).

Pricing:

You can try the software free with one client. After that, the pricing is on a scale based on the number of clients you have. For example, up to 30 clients would cost $70/month. The advanced nutrition add-on is $45/month on top of that.

9. Kalix

Kalix is another EHR designed for health care professionals – so it might be a good option if you’re a dietitian providing MNT, but not the best if you’re a nutrition coach or personal trainer. The software includes appointment scheduling, billing, patient charting, and reporting.

Pros:

  • Wide range of functionalities for practice management
  • HIPAA compliant
  • One of the most affordable options for unlimited clients
  • SMS text messaging included in lowest tier plan

Cons:

  • Some users might find the interface less intuitive compared to other platforms
  • HIPAA-compliant telehealth meetings are only included starting at the second tier plan ($47/month)

Pricing:

Pricing options vary based on whether you’re a solo or group practice. Solo practice plans start at $27/month (for unlimited clients), with two additional tiers with more features available at $47/month and $67/month. Group practice plans vary in price based on the hours of appointments per month.

You can also create custom meal plans from their database of recipes, and upload your own recipes. It’s probably one of the most popular options out there for nutritionists and dietitians.

2. Eat Love Pro – This meal planning tool is designed to be effective for a range of environments, including dietitians in private practice, but also inpatient, corporate wellness and in grocery stores. The app guides clients through any advance meal prep to help their actual meal time cooking to be minimal.

3. GOmealplans – This is a software program and app created by a fellow registered dietitian. You can use this to create meal plans for your clients, and your clients can use the software to track their meals.
