"Benefits of Movement" listing image

As dietitians, we know that there are numerous benefits of exercise that have nothing to do with weight, shape, or size. Moving our bodies helps improve our sleep, improve our mood, improve our ability to complete ADLs, etc.

Our clients often associate movement with weight loss or weight gain, have difficulty unlinking that association, and lack the knowledge that there are benefits of movement that aren’t weight-related.

When weight loss or weight gain is the sole motivation for exercise, clients commonly feel frustrated when the number on the scale isn’t budging or the size of the clothes isn’t changing, and they commonly experience very low motivation to continue moving their bodies.

Provide your clients with this free handout as a way to 1) help them understand ways in which movement really benefits their physical and mental health and well-being and 2) support them in establishing a healthy relationship with movement.
