As a dietitian focused on supporting clients on their weight loss journeys, Melissa’s premium Well Resourced Dietitian content supports her business growth and niche development. Learn how she made 250+ sales from her products, generating nearly $4,500 in income!
Welcome to the Well Resourced Dietitian InnovatoRD Series! Meet Melissa Mitri, fellow dietitian specializing in sustainable weight loss and weight management for women. Her Well Resourced vendor store consists of several nutrition and business resources that cover everything from meal planning and mindful eating to charting and check-in forms.
There is a strong lean toward “food freedom” in the online dietitian space of late, and yes, that certainly has its place in our field. But there is also space for dietitians such as Melissa who support clients who ask for our support in losing weight. Melissa embraces the latter approach via her expertise, and her smart resources reflect it. Given the numerous resources available for dietitians with a focus on food freedom, you might even say that Melissa’s niche is narrow – and therefore valuable to her as other professionals in dietetics, clinical healthcare and fitness, for example, seek out her supportive weight loss templates and handouts.
Let’s get to know Melissa and learn about her success!
Meet Melissa: Sustainable Weight Loss Dietitian
Hello! I’m Melissa. I became an RDN because I’ve always been fascinated with how food choices impact health and wellbeing. I also love science and working with people.
And, I enjoy eating!
We do too, Melissa! 😊
My goal is to always help teach clients and consumers how to eat well while enjoying their food at the same time. I’ve been an RDN for over 15 years and have worked in many clinical settings before transitioning to private practice and the business world, writing sustainable weight loss content for several brands.
We love hearing about your path and interests, Melissa. Inspiring! Tell us more about your work across weight loss, private practice and writing. What makes your niche special?
I’ve always been interested in weight loss and knew I would eventually open my own practice. I worked in the hospital setting for years and remember feeling like I couldn’t give weight loss patients the attention and personalization they needed with the constraints of the hospital system. Weight loss is challenging for so many people, and I have seen so many go about it in the wrong way and feel frustrated. I help them find a more sustainable way of doing it and enjoy their life at the same time.
"Weight loss is challenging for so many people, and I have seen so many go about it in the wrong way and feel frustrated. I help them find a more sustainable way of doing it and enjoy their life at the same time."
I always ask my clients whether they could follow a particular weight loss plan for more than three months. If the answer is “no,” it’s not a plan for them, and will likely set them up for weight regain. In my client sessions we focus on making gradual lifestyle adjustments, changing one habit at a time for long-term success.
Your clients are fortunate to work with you, Melissa. This is a healthy approach.
I also love writing and learning about SEO. I branched out into writing shortly after starting my private practice, and quickly realized how many opportunities were out there! Fast-forward 5+ years later, and writing is the majority of what I do while still maintaining a small client base within my practice.
I love how writing offers flexibility and opportunity for continual learning and creativity. It’s also a great way to reach a large number of people with your nutrition messages compared to 1:1 counseling, and to be seen as an expert sharing credible information. And best yet, I’m able to take some of what I write and create and share with other dietitians on Well Resourced.
Melissa’s Resources on Well Resourced Dietitian
How does your expertise show up in the content that you create for Well Resourced?
I create client educational materials focused on weight loss support as well as private practice resources and templates, such as client charting templates, to save RDNs time and energy in their everyday work.
I often create products based on what my own clients need and are continuously asking for. If multiple clients are asking for the same thing, I know it’s in demand and something that is needed – for clients and for dietitians seeking resources on Well Resourced. I then create a handout that fits this need. So instead of looking up the same information over and over, you have a go-to resource to share every time that very question is brought up.
We hear this a bunch from our vendor dietitians, Melissa – making resources that FIT A CLIENT NEED is such a smart strategy!
Also, it’s important to me that my materials are impactful. I aim to make every product actionable instead of simply conveying general information. My clients appreciate when materials are specific and provide examples like food lists, brand suggestions and product ideas so they don’t have to look elsewhere for these recommendations. For RDNs, I make the resources and templates customizable to fit their business and brand so they can easily make it their own.
Here are a few of my favorites and most popular ones!

Your materials truly do span weight loss support, plus business solutions for private practice dietitians, Melissa. We have to ask – do you have a favorite?
I am proud of all of them! But I particularly love the Charting Template Bundle, which provides charting templates for those initial and follow-up sessions to save private practice RDs time in charting. I could have used this as an intern and during my hospital days – I’m so glad to be able to provide this one to others looking for time savings!
How Well Resourced Has Helped Melissa’s Business Grow
Melissa, we hear from our vendors that creating a Well Resourced Dietitian store provides them with passive income – and is something they wish they would have done sooner. What wins have you experienced by selling your content on Well Resourced?
Tell us how your nearly 50 products have resulted in thousands of dollars in sales, Niki. What’s your secret?
I’ve made nearly $4,500 in sales and most of these have been completely passive! And yes, you can do it, too! Beyond the initial up-front work to create the resources, once they’re uploaded, very minimal work is required. I’ve also had several Well Resourced Dietitian clients reach out and thank me for the materials and share how they used them in their practice. It makes me incredibly happy and proud to know these resources are making their jobs easier – that’s the goal.
What about brand growth for your business? We know this has resulted from your visibility and sales on Well Resourced. Tell us more.
I’ve definitely seen my brand grow as a result of being a Well Resourced vendor, as my arsenal of nearly 15 products helped me establish myself as an expert in my niche and allowed me to share my expertise with other RDNs. I love hearing from dietitians how my resources have helped them better serve their clients, prepare, save time and more.
I often share my store link on LinkedIn, too, which increases awareness and reminds others of what I do and what my business is all about. I think any way you can give back in this way, by providing resources to others in your field, helps position you as a passionate brand that gives back to their profession.
Melissa’s Advice to Vendors and Vendors-To-Be
When I’m asked about advice for dietitians who are thinking about creating materials for other dietitians, I’d suggest creating products with the ideal client in mind. Always.
Ask yourself the following:
- What questions are you constantly getting from your clients?
What resources are lacking in your area of practice?
What topics are you constantly talking about with clients that they say are so helpful?
What would you want in your practice that has not already been created?
Asking yourself these questions can get the ideas flowing and provide inspiration for what to create. If you’re stuck, you can type your niche/area of expertise in the Well Resourced search bar and see what has been created already. How can you improve upon what you see? Or – if nothing on your chosen topic is there, that’s likely your sign to create it!
My biggest piece of advice? Don't overthink it! Simple, practical and tangible resources are best.
