This group facilitates discussion on how food offers more than nutritional value. Group members identify how food is significant in their lives, including social connection, culture, tradition, experiences, enjoyment, comfort, celebrations, and nourishment.

Group members are asked to identify a significant food memory and are encouraged to share their memory with the group and how this food has been significant in their lives.

  • For adolescents or adults in eating disorder recovery or for those looking to improve their relationship with food from an intuitive eating and anti-diet approach.

  1. To support clients in improving their relationship with food by identifying the functions and significance of food in their lives.
  2. To reduce black and white thinking with food by considering how food offers more than nutritional value.

  • Food Significance: Lesson Plan and Handouts for Eating Disorder or Intuitive Eating Groups

    I was so grateful for the lesson plan and handout. I used two hand-outs in a group medical appointment with the two minute video and I added a food demonstration. The participation was meaningful, the patients were involved, entertained and left seeming very empowered. Thank you for putting this resource together!
