Adapted from the book “Mindful Eating” by Jan Chozen Bays, MD this handout helps clients identify the 7 different types of hunger (ie. eye, mouth, heart, etc) and how to satisfy this hunger.  For a brief example, “eye hunger” means a food looks appealing and the way to satisfy this is adding a variety of colors, textures and shapes to your plate.

These elements are meant to increase the nuance of helping clients understand their hunger cues and cravings in order to increase their ability to provide themselves options in the setting of intuitive eating.  This knowledge can help clients increase their satisfaction factor with learning more about the hunger they are experiencing.

  • Researcher spells author's name wrong!

The Page of information on “7 Types of Hunger” by Jan”Chonsen”-Bays, MD is well prepared but not without error. Unfortunately, the original author’s name, in quotes in the previous sentence, is spelled wrong. This PDF is very nice in display and information, however; the first thing I noticed was the misspelled name of the original author. It really detracts me from the whole page. What more can I say.
