Do you notice your clients tend to put food safety on the back burner when preparing healthful meals or snacks? This handout is intended for those at higher risk for acquiring food-borne illness, such as the immunocompromised, elderly, and those with autoimmune disorders, as well as for anyone who looking to take their food safety knowledge to the next level. This is a simple visual handout that illustrates the goal internal temperatures of different common foods. Use this to remind clients about the importance of using an instant-read food thermometer before serving the foods on this list. Each temperature on the visual thermometer guide includes the time that the food in question should remain at the goal temperature (for example, 165 degrees F for less than 1 second). The handout includes the following temperature benchmarks:
- 175 degrees F
- 165 degrees F
- 155 degrees F
- 145 degrees F
- 135 degrees F
