A visual activity for ages 10 and up to learn the difference between whole grains and refined grains. Build a fun set of flip books that explains all the components of wheat when it is considered whole versus refined. Use as a simple stand alone interactive activity for nutrition month, with your clients, at a public health fair, and more!

Easy instructions:

Tools: scissors, hole punch, string/ribbon, laminator (optional)

  1. Cut along the dotted lines
  2. For the whole grain flip book: layer the complete whole grain, wheat, brain, endosperm, and germ on top of each other.
  3. For the refined grain flip book: layer the refined grain, wheat, and endosperm on top of each other.
  4. Laminate cards if desired, hole punch the cards, and tie a string or ribbon through the holes to make your flip books. Place next to cover page when setting out activity if desired (page 3).
  5. Use as a simple interactive activity during national nutrition month, with clients and more!
