Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based therapy that aims to teach psychological flexibility. In ACT, we do not attempt to change one’s thoughts, but rather work toward accepting them and living a meaningful, value-based life.
The workbook and guide is organized into seven sections. Each section is organized by the concepts in ACT.
- Introduction to ACT. Common terms and an overview of the six core processes.
- What does the clinician do? Guide on structuring your sessions, case-conceptualization, and assessment tools
- The function of behavior and an overview of the Choice Point, The Matrix, and life compass.
- Control is the problem: Dissecting the problem, creating behavioral goals, and exercises on experiential avoidance, the miracle question, and a seven-day documentary exercise.
- Mindfulness: Acceptance, Defusion, and the use of metaphors
- Values: Core values, committed action
- Goal setting: Effective goals, worksheets, and committed action
