High & Low Potassium (CHINESE language)
Potassium is an electrolyte involved in heart electrical conductivity, muscle contraction, nerve function, vascular function, as well as blood pressure control. Potassium management is especially crucial in our renal patients due to the impaired mechanisms involved in potassium homeostasis.
Dietary management of potassium is an important strategy to maintain normal range of serum potassium and prevent complications. However, many of the currently available resources focus merely on foods to avoid, making our patients feel overly restricted and, frankly, afraid to eat anything at all.
Therefore, KNI developed our fan-favorite resource: the “High & Low Potassium” handout.
This “High & Low Potassium” handout not only highlights high potassium foods to watch out for, but also dedicates one whole page to highlight low potassium foods patients CAN enjoy! This gives patients more freedom and greatly improves compliance rates.
Each food item on the list is also accompanied by colorful visuals to enhance understanding, especially for patients with lower literacy rates.
