Grab your copy of this new Infant Diet Progression handout!

Currently, it is very hard to find a handout from a reliable source stating at what age to offer certain foods to infants. Most of the time, it is unclear and very generalized. Also, a lot of parents are not aware that it is recommended to introduce allergenic foods at about 4-6 months. This handout summarizes the diet progression of infants 0 – 12 months including the type of foods offered, when to offer specific food groups, the serving size and the frequency per day. On the bottom of the page, the foods options for Dairy, Grains, and Protein are listed in a simple, easy to follow format. This handout is unique because it is very specific and covers all 12 months of infancy.

This handout can help provide guidance to parents, caregivers, and guardians to introduce foods across all the food groups including items that fit within a family’s preferences, cultural traditions, and budget. Complementary foods and beverages should be rich in nutrients, meet calorie and nutrient requirements during this critical period of growth and development, and stay within limits of dietary components such as added sugars and sodium.  This handout is only a guide and does not apply to all infants (pre-term, infants with medical conditions, etc.).

Population: Parents with infants ages 0-12 months; Expecting parents
