Are you looking for a simple handout to give to clients who are working on intuitive eating or getting in touch with their hunger and fullness cues?

This handout features two simple pages.

  • Page one is a classic display of the hunger-fullness scale. This is a helpful visual for anyone who is working on becoming more in touch with their body’s physiological hunger and fullness cues.
  • Page two provides information on the different types of hunger (e.g., physical, taste, and emotional). This can really help fill in the missing gaps when it comes to understanding why we eat. Obviously, we are not always eating because of hunger, and this ok. This handout helps clients recognize some of the most common reasons that they may turn to food.

These handouts are a helpful resource for clients who are logging their food intake in an intuitive-eating-friendly way. They can simply record the time that they ate, what they ate, and their hunger/fullness. (At the start of a meal they can note their level of hunger and what type(s) of hunger they experienced. At the end of the meal they can note their fullness level.) Some people also find it helpful to tune into their mood, their environment, and any distractions that were present during their meals.

This handout is perfect for:

  • Tweens and teens who are becoming more independent with their eating and may be noticing more “experience-sharing hunger” and “energy-seeking hunger” in addition to the 4 most commonly known hungers (physical, taste, emotional, and planning ahead).
  • Adults who are parenting tweens or teens and/or are looking to understand their own hunger and fullness cues.

The information in these handouts is adapted from “Intuitive Eating, 4th Edition” by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch and “The Intuitive Eating Workbook for Teens” by Elyse Resch. These handouts are suitable for tweens, teens, and adults.
