Young Child Nutrition for kids age 4-8

Intentions:

Use this food neutral handout with children ages 4-8 years old and their parents to help guide intake for growing children. The intention of this handout is to be used as a “bare minimum” for serving suggestions. It is important to acknowledge that every growing child’s need are going to be different and that food should be flexible. This handout highlights foods that diet culture has traditionally labeled as “bad” in order to help normalize the consumption of these foods. By doing this, it encourages a positive relationship with food for kids and their parents.

  • Recommended intake of food groups for children ages 4-8 years of age. Provides serving suggestions in each food group.
  • Example meal ideas with visuals that make it engaging for both children and adults

Benefits:

This handout will help empower children and their parents to build rounded meals to support their growing bodies and hobbies. This handout will also support a positive relationship with food.
