Stressing about parental leave? LOOK NO FURTHER.
As a first time Mom and owner of my solo private practice, I had NO clue where to start when it came to parental leave planning and organization. I searched for communication templates on how to balance my business and personal needs during this exciting (albeit terrifying!) time.
This led me to find that this resource didn’t exist… so I created it!
In this packet, you’ll find a 1 page Excel (also included a Numbers file for Mac users) spreadsheet I used to list out current clients, their needs/diagnoses/rate/location, etc and possible RDs (and their relevant information) that had offered to cover my leave.
You’ll also find an 8 page Word (and Pages) document that has 5 email templates to help you communicate your needs throughout your leave preparation. These include:
1. Email to client’s current team members IF and only IF release of information (ROI) is in place (therapists, psychiatrists, primary care providers, etc)
2. Email to RD colleagues, seeking coverage for parental leave
3. Email to current clients and/or their guardians/parents
4. Email to fellow RD colleagues with details regarding leave, potential coverage options provided to clients and client details (assuming that ROI is signed & in place)
5. Final email to clients, loved ones and interdisciplinary team members on case (if ROI in place)
Last, but certainly not least, as an eating disorder RD, I felt it was crucial to plan and prepare for my physical, emotional and mental needs while going on leave. Again, being a first time mom, I had / have no clue what to expect… and wanted to be as prepared as possible. So the last piece of this packet is a 3 page PDF file that offers a place to document your “usual” grocery items (so that you can easily point someone else to the fridge/freezer/pantry to help with a grocery order/delivery), your freezer “inventory” (great for those that have had a meal train or a ‘cooking day’ where your freezer was stocked up!), and finally, a bills checklist (so that none of those pesky financial things fall through the cracks while you are healing and soaking up all the time with your new addition!
This packet will help you:
- Stay organized (AND CALM) as you prep to go on leave
- Ensure seamless transitions for clients requiring ongoing support while on leave
- Eliminate communication barriers and confusion felt by colleagues covering leave, clients, and other team members
- Help plan your household needs (bills, groceries, freezer items)
