Use this roadmap worksheet to devise a firm plan with clients who are struggling with ED thoughts and behaviors. Print out the set of worksheets, and fill in the blanks with preferred / favorite coping skills. A coping skill “bank” is apart of this packet as well to get the ball rolling, but feel free to add your own too. Coping skills from various modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, Mindfulness and more are included.

Share this during one on one or group sessions with clients – it can be assigned as “homework” in between sessions, or work on it together during session. It’s recommended to keep this roadmap handy around the client’s most frequent spaces – so that they can access it anytime. This roadmap can be especially helpful with challenging meals, or while trying to not engage with ED behaviors.

The goal is for the client to fill out each number space with a preferred coping skill… and to start with number 1 when they begin feeling distressed, or are trying to not engage with ED behaviors/thoughts. If coping skill # 1 doesn’t do the trick, they can move onto #2, and so on and so forth. This worksheet is great for clients who forget their coping skills, or feel as though their coping skills aren’t useful (often times because they aren’t being used as frequently as they might need to be!).

This handout is user friendly for all ages, genders and eating disorder types. It can be used with a client desiring harm reduction, or with clients seeking full ED recovery.
