This 6-page handout features simplified education on how to better manage diabetes.
During my time in an acute care setting, I have found the need for simplified materials due to patients not feeling well and not wanting to sit through a long education session, patients simply not wanting an education session, or the need for the patient to have simplified materials.
This 6-page handout breaks down the information in a way that patients can understand the material if they are reading it on their own with no guidance from a professional.
Topics include:
- what is diabetes
- the importance of insulin in the body,
- what to look for on food labels
- what foods may be higher in carbs
- the importance of measuring out foods
- carb counting and more!
Each paragraph gives a brief overview of the topic with the goal of not to overwhelm the patient. This material would be best for lower literacy patients.
