Confused about what your bariatric patients should be supplementing with after surgery to meet their micronutrient needs? Not sure how to share this information with patients? This one-page guide will solve all your problems!
Based on the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Perioperative Nutrition, Metabolic, and Nonsurgical Support of Patients Undergoing Bariatric Procedures – 2019 Update, this chart goes through each micronutrient and provides the recommended amount of each for each type of surgery. It is thorough enough to be used as a clinical reference guide, but is also set up to be given as a patient handout as well.
Recommended Appointment Activity: look at what the patient is currently supplementing with and highlight all the met nutrients in green and all the unmet nutrients in red/pink. This will create a great visual for both you and the patient to see if their needs are actually being met. Based on the results of the activity, you may decide to recommend adding an extra supplement, or switching products completely.
This handout is a Word document so you can add your own logo or contact information. It is printer-friendly but also works great electronically once saved as a PDF.
