How many times do you hear “But can you just tell me what I need to eat?” or my favorite “I just need someone to meal plan and cook for me.”
The answer is as easy as printing this off and handing it out to all of your non-cooking clients. We live in a culture where convenience is king, so instead of fighting it, let’s use some convenient food options to meet our clients where they are at. Some people are too busy, or don’t have the knowledge or skill to prepare their foods but want to make better choices. Whether your client is looking to have bariatric surgery or not, these cheat sheets can be used as a spring board for making grocery lists, meal prepping, or slowly working up to eating 3 meals a day. They were created with bariatric surgery clients in mind, so protein is emphasized, while low fat/low sugar foods are also encouraged. If these recommendations fit with what your client needs, then download away!
The handouts included are:
- Choosing Convenience Foods: This handout explores some of the more convenient, less labor-intensive food options out there in the majority of grocery stores (if I can find them in my small town, they should be available near you as well). It is broken down into the different food groups, with a frozen “combination food” section as well. Obviously this can’t be a complete list, but should be more than enough to get your client started!Â
- Choosing Protein Focused Snacks: This handout offers more than 25 protein focused snack options! Sweet, savory, and a separate section for nuts and seed choices means this handout can be helpful to everyone.Â
