Let’s make the complex and tabu topic of poop and digestion feel more simple, self-explanatory and user-friendly!
As a seasoned gut health dietitian, I always make sure my clients are educated on the Bristol stool chart! The Bristol stool chart can empower our clients by allowing them to feel more informed and supported, and it can also help us as practitioners to do a much better job at helping our clients.
For example:
- Duuring clinical assessments and follow-ups, instead of asking your clients “how’s your digestion?” (since they usually have NO idea don’t know what that means or what “normal” poop is supposed to look like)…
- I highly recommend asking your clients to show you on this Bristol stool chart which poop most accurately resembles their poop!
- This one-page Bristol Stool Chart PDF can also serve as a nice way for your clients to track their progress more objectively (from a gut health standpoint).
Long story short: Not only will your clients feel more confident, validated and understood when they get to refer to this visual representation of what they’re experiencing… but being able to say “number 5” or “number one” (etc.) is a lot easier than having to describe details, especially for those out there who are embarassed and uncomfortable talking openly about poop. 😉
